A Rural Retreat, Offering Peace and Tranquility

We are a very small well established site catering for caravans, motor homes and tents. The site offers the peace and quiet of a grown-ups only environment and is open May to September.

We are nestled in the beautiful unspoilt Dordogne countryside and situated in the Parc Naturel Perigord-Limousin, some 7 kilometres from the town of Nontron.

Manzac Ferme is forest cloaked, on the river Bandiat, surrounded by lakes and deserted roads. It is a truly idyllic location.

Our unique site has been purposely designed to cater sympathetically and exclusively for the needs of adults so that visitors can enjoy the tranquil quiet surroundings by the calm river.  We also welcome your four-legged companions.

We warmly invite you to share with us the sun-blessed countryside, filled with bird song and colourful butterflies busy pollinating the abundant flora.

In the day you’ll see plentiful wildlife, from birds of prey overhead to deer in the surrounding woodland. At night the clear black sky makes for fantastic star-gazing and a possible sighting of the International Space Station!  Finally go off to sleep to the sound of owls.

There is plenty of opportunity to relax and re-charge the batteries. Leave the cares of the world behind, venture perhaps along the numerous unspoilt forest tracks on foot or cycle.

You may like to swim or try your hand at fishing on our own stretch of the river Bandiat, which forms a necklace around our site.

To check on availability, or make a booking, please click on our Book Now button. If you would like to know more or have any questions go to our contact page to send us an email. We have a minimum booking on line of 3 nights but do contact us directly as we may be able to be flexible.

Otherwise, do explore the rest of our website for details of local attractions and further details.

We look forward to welcoming you to Manzac Ferme.

About Us

We (Frances and Dave) came to view Manzac Ferme and the lovely campsite on the River Bandiat in a window of travel that was allowed in August 2020 during the Covid crisis!   We fell in love and came back again in October to sign papers and moved our lives here to this tranquil area of the North Dordogne on the 8th December 2020.

After our first successful season of 2021 we are now settled and more adjusted to our new way of life in France. Coming from busy 24/7 Southampton to the French countryside has been an interesting adventure so far, but one that we are enjoying very much, mistakes and all!   We continue to explore our local area on foot, bike and car so that we can share our experiences with our visitors.

Frances taught Pilates for 20 years in the UK and together we led Nordic Walking groups in the New Forest.   We do hope to be able to share some of these activities with future guests.

We are very much looking forward to meeting all the new and many repeat guests again to share the ‘peace and tranquillity’ of Manzac Ferme.

Brilliant What a campsite! The wonderful hosts in this small and quiet campsite greeted us with carrot cake and showed us around the grounds where you can paddle down the Bandait or swim in the river. The bathrooms were immaculate. A luxury after staying on a regular campsite with a large block for toilets and showers. It felt like a home from home minus the noise. A paradise set in secluded forest with amenities close by. Loved every minute and would highly recommend this site. In fact we’ll be using it again next year without thinking.

Tranquil Relaxed Camping Lovely site. Tranquil and peaceful. Clean and pitches are large with a nice amount of sun and shade. Nice to have a fridge and freezer accessible and also a few drinks and odds and ends available to buy. Dave and Francis are very helpful and do all they can to make your stay a success. Will definitely be visiting again.

Camping paradise 🏕 Thank you Frances and Dave for another amazing holiday at Manzac! This is our third time at this site and we never fail to be disappointed. It’s beautifully peaceful, surrounded by nature and with as much or as little to do on the doorstep as you choose. We throughly enjoyed being able to swim in the river this year, it was a very welcome refresh! I also enjoyed a massage from a local therapist who’s card is displayed in the campsite, such a lovely treat and I would wholeheartedly recommend a treatment with Noella 🧡

Camping perfection On arrival we were greeted by the owners, Frances and Dave and took up their offer of a cold beer and slice of homemade carrot cake….we immediately knew we were onto a winner! It’s a lovely, small, adult-only campsite with just a handful of spacious pitches (mostly with plenty of shade). We enjoyed afternoons relaxing in the hammocks by the river and evenings rowing the little boat down it. The facilities are immaculate and it is obvious a lot of care and attention has been put into giving the place character. There’s a handy fridge, local information (e.g walks from site) and an honesty box shop for essentials (milk, snacks, wine etc).We loved having visits to our van from a little robin and blue tit, hearing cows mooing, butterflies fluttering around, and spotting herons and a family of ragondin on the river. If you can drag your self away from the site, in one direction (approx 20 minute cycle ride uphill there, downhill back) the local village has a boulangerie and creperie, and the other way there is a post office and shop/bar (though opening hours seemed a bit unreliable) and just 5 minutes further onto Saint-Estephe lake, perfect for cooling off on a hot August day (free 30 mins paddle boarding/kayaking, cafe, facilities). There are lots more options for cycling, walking, and exploring further by car but we were very content spending our 3 days close to ‘home’.

Manzac fence great camp site Wonderful little camp site set among trees. Large pitches with grounds leading down to river. David and Frances are great hosts and site has excellent facilities, including a small shop with essential products. Great location for visiting local attractions. Would definitely recommend. Nice touch was getting a slice of cake from our hosts when we arrived.

Camping as it should be! Camping as it should be.We booked through Manzac’s website, paid a deposit and a balance before we arrived. On the day of arrival we arrived well ahead of check in time but were graciously shown to empty pitches, and were told to pick the one we wanted. We chose #3 down by the river with plenty of shade. The pitch has an electricity connection and it worked first time, as did the WiFi. Good Orange Fr/EE signal too.The site has a small number of woodland pitches, all private and very quiet, thanks in part to there being no children on the site (it is adults only). There are some hard standing pitches for caravans and motorhomes. You can’t take your car to the tent pitches but the owners have an electric cart to help move your gear – all part of the fun and in my view is a good idea as it eliminates the second most annoying thing on sites (after badly behaved noisy children): People slamming car doors all day and late night/early morning. The facilities here are very well thought out, immaculately clean, showers, toilets, wash up area, fresh water, info board with maps and local opening times as well as an honesty shop for essentials such as eggs, jam, wine and milk. There is set of book exchange shelves too. Perfect for a drizzly afternoon. It’s a total pleasure to be on a site where you don’t have to keep pressing a button for water in the shower! The hosts here are wonderful people and are the reason we have already talked about returning. Genuinely enthusiastic, friendly and keen to ensure everyone has a pleasant stay. They even rolled out a “bain de chien” for our Labrador to rinse off in after being in the river for a swim (pictures on Instagram). Very kind of them.If you want a place to feel valued and welcomed, to relax and take things at a slower pace this is the place to come.Wishing Frances and Dave all the best for a busy season ahead.

An idyllic rural retreat … If you really want to get away from it all, this is the place for you! It is a fairly small, adults only campsite (with 6 motorhome pitches and 5 camping pitches) in an idyllic location surrounded by woodland and sloping down to the river Bandiat. Fran and Dave went above and beyond to make us welcome. They have some great recommendations about what to do in the local area and there is a useful information board detailing walks straight from the campsite. In terms of the facilities, everything is clean and well-kept, there are toilets and showers along with a laundry room – everything you need is there! There are many activities nearby, including an excellent weekly farmer’s market and some beautiful villages. They even have an emergency rations fridge and there is a rowing boat down by the river for the use of guests. The attention to detail makes this a fantastic place to stay.

The best campsite in the South of France, (probably the whole world) Upon arriving at Manzac Ferme we were greeted by both Frances and Dave who showed us to our motorhome pitch (pitch 6) and then gave us a tour of the beautifully kept grounds & facilities before offering a glass of wine. Two of the most delightful, helpful people you can meet.We had glorious weather for our two week stay and the shade of trees kept us comfortable in and out of our motorhome. I have never been able to let my mind forget about work until I came here. The phones were off and we just relaxed. One day we decided to take the rowing boat down the river for an hour and this is a must just to appreciate your surroundings if you haven’t already in the seven acres of campsite Manzac Ferme has to offer. The nearest place we found to stock up with food and maybe a little wine is about 15 minutes drive away but it is a delight to drive in this rural location. There are so many beautiful places to visit and I have added a few photos, there just wasn’t enough time to visit everywhere we wanted to see. We did get to visit the very sobering town of Oradour-sur-Glane, which houses a museum explaining it’s very sad history. This is just an hours drive away.I could go on and on about our two week stay here but I will suffice to say that we will be returning in the near future. A beautiful place and beautiful people.I wasn’t going to leave a review purely down the the fact that I want to keep this place all to myself, but that wouldn’t be fair on everyone else. You will not be disappointed staying here.

One night at manzac Ferme Very nice and warm welcome by Frances and Dave. They even proposed welcome drink.Frances showed us our spot for the night and showed us around her camping, indicating the points of interest, showers, waste and the riverside. She also gave me a helpful tip where I could walk my dogs in the surroundings of the camping.

Some Guest's Comments

In kurz: Top – würden jeder Zeit wieder kommen. –  Z L, Germany
